News:

Preservation fee begins in October.

The Loring-Greenough House was built in 1760.  How old is that?  Do you realize it was used as a hospital for the Battle of Bunker Hill?  After the Spring/Summer season, the JP Tuesday Club asked for a rent increase.  Rather than a complicated percentage formula, we agreed to a simple solution.  Whatever the ticket value, a $1 “preservation fee” will be added.  40 tickets sold = $40 to   the JPTC.  This is a small price to pay for continued use of the oldest folk venue in Boston, and probably the country.

Falcon Ridge 2008 “most wanted to return” winners announced.

I am very pleased to announce that an artist already booked for March, 2008 has received the honor of “most wanted to return”.  Of the 25 “emerging artist” who competed in the finals, the audience selected four to return next year:

“Results of the FRFF audience survey for the Top 3 Showcase Artists are in. In addition to an invite to do the Most Wanted Song Swap and workshops at
FR08, the top voted will do our annual preview tour in May. This will be our 11th P Tour. More details shortly on our website.

From a total of 1160 audience surveys voting for their fave 3, the results are:

1 – Anthony da Costa – garnering votes from just over 40% of the voting audience
2 – Lindsay Mac – with 20%
3 – Joe Crookston and Randall Williams – just about tied with 18% and 17% of the voters respectively

Honorable mentions to Joe Jencks & Vienna Teng who finished next, followed by Chris O’Brien, Edie Carey, Nick Annis, Beaucoup Blue and Five2. SEVEN strong HMs this year, each with more than 10% of the voting and, a really STRONG showcase……”

Randall Williams will perform at Notlob on Saturday, March 22, 2008.

Looking ahead:

Dennis Brennan w/ MaryLou Ferrante, Saturday, October 6, 7:30.

Dennis Brennan

“Boston has a music legacy that needs no introduction. Think of Aerosmith, the J. Geils Band, Morphine, and Willie Alexander for starters. At the heart of the scene, though, is an artist like Dennis Brennan. He’s a cagey veteran who hasn’t won similar fame but can electrify audiences with his ability to cross brilliantly from rock to soul, blues, country, and jazz, while breathing fresh life into each.”

- Steve Morse, longtime Boston Globe reviewer and cohost of “Morse on Music” on WBOS-FM.

 Marylou Ferrante

Marylou Ferrante was described by music critic and writer, Daniel Gewertz, in the Boston Herald, as the Bay State’s finest female acoustic blues interpreter.  She performs pre-war blues from the 1920′s & 30′s. She covers major artists from the delta to east coast piedmont style players such as Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, Blind Boy Fuller and Memphis Minnie along with mandolin players such as Yank Rachell.  Her passionate expression of these old songs comes from a love of the music and the arrangements themselves, as well as what she says is an appreciation for “the history of these folks and the difficult circumstances they endured.”

This concert surely will sell out; make your reservation to notlobmusic@gmail.com
