Introducing The Urban Youth Sports Young Professionals Group
September 11, 2007
Neighbors,
Here is a group you might be interested in getting to know.
Who we are:
The Urban Youth Sports Young Professionals Group (“UYS Young Pros”) creates opportunities for socializing and collaboration among Boston area professionals. At its most basic, the young professionals group is intended to be, like sports, a platform for fun, personal development and social interaction. The group will help UYS develop a new generation of “friends” who will aid in building the visibility and capacity of the program through advocacy, fundraising and/or volunteer efforts, as well as by engaging their own businesses in the growing corporate social responsibility movement.
About UYS:
Believing that physical activity and health are cornerstones in positive development among youth, Sport in Society created Urban Youth Sports (UYS). UYS is dedicated to creating physical activity opportunities that will strengthen both the minds and bodies of underserved urban youth populations and therefore foster the healthy development of our community’s future leaders.
Goals of the “Young Pros”:
Raise awareness about Urban Youth Sports’ mission and activities, as well as the issues the program addresses (e.g. disparities in physical activity opportunities, disparities in health care and the general healthy development of urban youth).
Create an opportunity for young urban professionals to meet and socialize in a relaxed, fun, age-appropriate setting.
Offer a forum for discussion and collaboration on all levels.
Provide a basic entry way into community service, collaboration and philanthropy for young professionals who have yet to get into such work but may have the desire/latent desire to do so.
Promote local businesses that are also interested in corporate social responsibility and willing to similarly promote UYS by hosting and assisting with group events.
Group Activities:
Host general and themed social gatherings
Participate in food and wine tastings
Attend cultural and sporting events
Take group lessons and classes (cooking, dancing, sports, etc.)
Go on trips and excursions (skiing, deep sea fishing, hiking, etc.)
Invite guest speakers
Volunteer with Urban Youth Sports programs and events
Envision and implement fundraisers (road race, golf tournament, auction, etc.)
Sit on group committees (activities, philanthropy, marketing, etc.)
Target Population:
Young professionals from throughout the Greater Boston area who are interested in:
Meeting and socializing with new, like-minded individuals.
Participating in planned, oftentimes discounted activities.
Exploring new venues for social activities in and around Boston.
Social justice/community service, urban development, sport and/or youth development.

“Peace demands the most heroic labor and the most difficult sacrifice. It demands greater heroism than war. It demands greater fidelity to the truth and a much more perfect purity of conscience.”
