Neighbors,
Today I attended a meeting with the top execs from Wainwright Bank who wished to have a conversation with progressive bloggers about the possibility of the bank launching a blog, potentially advertising on their/our site, and blog culture/ethics. I was suprised to learn about the lenghtis the Wainwright organization gone be an organization with purpose. My perception of bankers, or at least the ones in downtown Boston, is that their a little stiff and would never join me wearing a nametag for year. Bankers are people too, and maybe even blogers soon.
Before I go further and before your make up your mind, consider this:
Additionally the amount of money donated at our Community Expo’s has been decreasing. The reality seems to be that NFN needs to find alternative ways to fundraise. It appears that financially supporting NFN does not seem to be something our membership does not feel compelled to do. I do think we can do a better job of asking for money by making more compeling asks, doing a better job of collecting at the expo, and maybe sending a specific funraising email. What would you suggest? Please leave a comment below.
The NFN blog has respectable web traffic of about 8000 distinct visitors per month. Our readership will contrinue especially with more people posting relavant content. I do think that the ad’s would have to be for companies who share similar values and have demonstrated their comittement to our communty. I think Wainwright would be a good fit given their socially responsible banking. How would you feel about there beeing selectively placed adds on this blog? Chime in by leaving a comment below.

As the instigator of the meeting (with able assistance from Sam Seidel) I appreciated your account of the meeting with the folks at Wainwright Bank. You made a great contribution to the discussion.
Thanks for posting about the meeting afterwards. I’d be interested in reading other people’s comments.

Wainwright is a great community asset. I think that we should promote social responsible businesses on this site and reap the benefits of their advertising to support the NFN cause. Also I would like to suggest that rather than pass the hat during or after the socials and expos, we should have a “recommended donation” at the door when people come in. If people can’t afford a couple of dollar “cover charge” when they come to the social that’s fine, but most people will dig into their pockets if the donation is collected at the door rather than later.
